Terms of Service
Effective date: July 1, 2026
These Terms are current as of July 1, 2026 and may be updated as Byline grows. Material changes will be notified per Section 14.
1. Agreement and eligibility
Byline is a content automation service (“Byline,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) form a binding agreement between Byline and you, the person or business using the service (“you” or the “Customer”). By creating an account or using Byline (the “Service”), you accept these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service. The Service is intended for business use — operating and supplying content to websites you run. If you use Byline on behalf of a company or other organization, you represent that you are authorized to accept these Terms on its behalf, and “you” includes that organization.
2. The Service
Byline does three things, all under your direction:
It retrieves content from the RSS feeds that you select (each, a “Source”); it uses artificial intelligence to generate rewritten article drafts based on those Sources (the “Output”); and it delivers that Output to the WordPress website or websites that you connect (each, a “Connected Site”), on the schedule you set, as either a draft post or a published post according to your settings.
Byline is a drafting and delivery tool. It is not a content management system, and it does not host the content you publish — your published posts live on your own WordPress sites, which you control. Byline connects to WordPress using standard WordPress Application Passwords and the WordPress REST API; there is no plugin or code installed on your site.
3. Your sites and credentials
This section is essential to the agreement. Byline publishes only where you tell it to, using only the access you provide. You therefore represent, warrant, and agree that:
(a) you own, or are expressly authorized to publish to, every Connected Site;
(b) every credential you provide — including each WordPress Application Password (each, a “Credential”) — belongs to an author account whose holder has consented to its use for publishing through Byline; and
(c) Byline publishes only through the Credentials you directly provide, and you are solely responsible for the authority those Credentials represent and for everything published through them.
You are responsible for keeping your Credentials and account login secure. Providing a Credential you are not authorized to use, or connecting a site you do not have the right to publish to, is a material violation of these Terms and may result in immediate suspension or termination of your account, without notice.
4. Content and editorial responsibility
You are the publisher. You choose the Sources, you set the schedule, and you decide whether Output is saved as a draft or published automatically. All editorial control and every publishing decision are yours.
You represent that you have the right to access, use, and process the Sources you connect, consistent with those Sources’ own terms and applicable law. You are solely responsible for the content delivered to and published on your Connected Sites, including its compliance with copyright, trademark, defamation, publicity, and all other applicable laws. Byline provides a tool that produces drafts; you are the party that reviews, approves, and publishes.
5. AI-generated content
The Output is generated automatically by artificial intelligence. It may contain errors, inaccuracies, outdated information, or material that unintentionally resembles other works. Byline makes no warranty that Output is accurate, original, or free of infringement, and provides no warranty of fitness for any particular purpose.
You are responsible for reviewing Output before it reaches the public — whether you run Byline in draft mode (reviewing each post yourself before publishing) or in automatic-publish mode. Choosing automatic-publish does not shift responsibility for the resulting content to Byline; the review obligation, and the consequences of skipping it, remain yours.
6. Plans, trials, and billing
Byline offers a 7-day free trial that does not require a credit card. To limit abuse, a trial is available only once per email address and once per connected site domain: a domain that has already been used in a trial cannot start a fresh trial under a different account. We enforce this automatically.
Paid plans are billed monthly in advance through our payment processor, Stripe. Each plan has tier limits and a per-site daily delivery cap, as described on our pricing page; billing is per connected site. Promotion codes and discounts, where offered, apply only on the terms stated for each code (for example, eligible plan, discount amount, duration, and redemption limits).
We may change our prices. If we do, we will give you at least 30 days’ notice before the change applies to your billing.
7. Downgrades, cancellation, and your data
You may cancel at any time through the billing portal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current paid period; you keep access until then, and fees already paid are not refunded except where required by law.
If you downgrade to a plan with lower limits, any sites or sources that exceed the new plan’s limits become dormant: they are hidden from your dashboard, they stop fetching and publishing, and their stored WordPress Credentials are removed. Dormant resources are retained for 180 days so you can reactivate them by upgrading again. After 180 days, dormant resources may be permanently deleted.
If your account is terminated or you delete it, we delete or de-identify your account data within a reasonable period, except for records we are required to keep (such as billing and tax records held by us or our payment processor). WordPress Credentials are destroyed when a site goes dormant or is disconnected. You can request deletion of your data at any time by contacting hello@wpbyline.com; see our Privacy Policy for details.
8. Acceptable use
You agree not to use Byline to:
(a) create or publish unlawful, infringing, defamatory, or harmful content; (b) operate spam networks or low-value sites designed to manipulate search rankings or deceive readers; (c) circumvent, or attempt to circumvent, plan limits, delivery caps, or the trial anti-abuse measures described in Section 6; (d) reverse engineer, decompile, scrape, or attempt to derive the source code or underlying models of the Service; or (e) resell, sublicense, or provide the Service to third parties except under a separate written agreement with us.
9. Availability and changes to the Service
We work to keep Byline running reliably, but we do not guarantee any particular level of uptime. Scheduled fetching and delivery are best-effort and depend on factors outside our control, including your Sources, your Connected Sites, and third-party providers. We may add, change, or remove features over time; where a change is material, we will take reasonable steps to let you know.
10. Intellectual property
Byline, including its software, design, and brand, is owned by Byline and protected by intellectual property laws. These Terms grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Service; they do not transfer any ownership in the Service to you.
As between you and Byline, you own the Output that you publish to your Connected Sites. We do not claim ownership of your published content.
11. Copyright complaints
We respond to notices of alleged copyright infringement. If you believe content delivered or published through the Service infringes your copyright, send a written notice to our designated contact at hello@wpbyline.com, including: identification of the work, identification of the allegedly infringing material and where it appears, your contact information, a statement of good-faith belief that the use is unauthorized, a statement (under penalty of perjury) that your notice is accurate and that you are authorized to act, and your physical or electronic signature.
We will remove or disable access to infringing material where appropriate and will terminate, in appropriate circumstances, the accounts of customers who are repeat infringers.
12. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that Output will meet your requirements.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Byline will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data, or goodwill, arising out of or relating to your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us for the Service in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim.
13. Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Byline from and against any claims, damages, liabilities, and reasonable expenses (including legal fees) arising out of or relating to: (a) content you deliver or publish through the Service; (b) the Credentials you provide and the authority they represent; (c) the Sources you select and your right to use them; and (d) your breach of these Terms or of applicable law.
14. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through an in-app notice before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the Service after the changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms. If you do not agree to a change, you should stop using the Service and may cancel under Section 7.
15. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Maryland, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and you agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Maryland for any dispute that is not otherwise resolved.
